What is the difference between Similac and Enfamil?
My wife is in the process of transitioning our three month old son from breastfeeding to formula. We have used Similac in the past when our daughter was an infant, and it is all my wife and her family have used. Yet we have all these free cans of Enfamil, the price is cheaper in the store, and when I compare the two they appear to be the same nutrionally.
I don’t see a difference with Similac, Enfamil, or Goodstart. I got coupons and samples of all three and I have used all three on my son and have noticed no real difference. From what I have read, if you use different brands you want to use the same type for each brand. Like if you use Similac Advance, you would want to use the Enfamil Lipil or equivalent with the Goodstart brand. I guess the Similac and Enfamil are more alike, but the Goodstart brand uses some different ingredients (sorry I can’t be more specific). As long as your child has no issues drinking the formula, I don’t see a problem with switching formula if you have samples or coupons. Might as well take advantage of it
Also if you want to save money, you can buy unopened formula, coupons, and checks off ebay. I do that a lot – every little bit helps!

what is the total ounces of similac advanced needed in 24 hours to adequately nourish a 14 pound infant?
Math? When feeding an infant? Really? Feed the baby when the baby is hungry. Let the baby eat how much the baby wants to eat. Babies have automatic “switches” that tell them when they are hungry and when they are full. When you take the baby in for its checkups, the doctor will talk to you about the baby’s feeding habits and talk to you if he or she thinks the baby is under or over weight and how to manage that. I don’t think math is the right way to go. My son wasn’t 14 pounds until he was nine months old. I don’t know if the math equation would have worked for him. I fed him when he was hungry.
